EPL: VAR denies Chelsea comeback win against Aston Villa

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was the subject of controversy again, as Chelsea played out a 2-2 draw at Aston Villa.

The Blues were looking for a positive result in the game, after they got thrashed 5-0 at Arsenal on Tuesday.

However, Mauricio Pochettino‘s men went two goals down in the first half.

Marc Cucurella put the ball into his own net, before Morgan Rogers doubled their lead.

But Chelsea fought back in the second half, to level the game, thanks to Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher.

Axel Disasi thought he had completed the comeback, but VAR intervened and his header was chalked off.

The officials judged the decision not to penalise Benoit Badiashile’s nudge on Diego Carlos to be a clear and obvious error – sparking fury among Chelsea’s players at full-time.
