EPL: Van Dijk loses first ever match at Anfield as Leeds defeat Liverpool 2-1

Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk, lost his first Premier League match at Anfield.

This follows their 2-1 defeat to Leeds United on Saturday night.

Crysencio Summerville scored a dramatic late winner as Leedshanded Jurgen Klopp’s side their first loss in 30 matches.

Liverpool got off to another disastrous start after four minutes when Joe Gomez played a blind backpass to Alisson who had moved out of his goal and slipped, leaving a gaping space for Rodrigo to run in and tap the ball into the empty net.

Mohamed Salah levelled for Liverpool 10 minutes later when Andy Robertson crossed for the Egypt international to hook a volley into the net from close range, igniting the Liverpool supporters.

Leeds, who were winless in their last eight Premier League games, were undeterred by the equaliser and continued flying around the field, with the crossbar and some timely saves by Alisson the only things keeping Liverpool level at the break.

Liverpool were better in the second half and pushed hard for the winner, but Summerville popped up just before full time against the run of play and beat Alisson with a snap shot from the outside of his foot to hand Leeds the needed points.

The result pulls Leeds and under-pressure manager Jesse Marsch out of the relegation zone into 15th place on 12 points, while Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are down to ninth, with 16 points from 12 games.
