EPL: Graham Potter provides update on Wesley Fofana’s injury news

Graham Potter has confirmed that Wesley Fofana will be out for a “few weeks” due to a knee strain sustained in the Champions League victory over AC Milan.

Fofana left the game against Milan in the first half due to an injury, just moments after scoring his first goal for Chelsea. The 21-year-old defender had to leave Stamford Bridge on crutches, but Potter said the injury was not as bad as he had feared.

“Wesley’s knee, not as bad as we thought,” the Blues head coach told reporters. “After the game, we were concerned. It will be a few weeks, I think. Consider it better than it could be but he’s out for a few weeks.”

Potter was then asked if Fofana, who joined Chelsea from Leicester City for £70 million during the summer transfer window, has a chance to recover in time for the World Cup later this year. “Yeah, that’s a possibility,” he said.

“It depends on how his rehab goes. I wouldn’t want to put too much of a timescale on it, but there’s a possibility of that, yes.”

N’Golo Kante’s absence is another setback for Chelsea. The France international has been out since the Blues drew with Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in the second game of the season in August.
