Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard has revealed how he wants his squad to play in the coming season.
Lampard took over from Maurizio Sarri who moved to Juventus weeks ago. He joined from Derby County which he led to a play-off which would have seen them qualify for the English Premier League.
Speaking about what he expects from his squad next season, the former Chelsea midfielder told the club’s official website:
“I’m really looking forward to the new season,” Blues star Cesar Azpilicueta told Chelsea’s official website.
“We’ve all had a good break, which was needed after a long season with the Europa League running until the end of May.
“It was great to win a trophy to finish with and now we are all ready and raring to get back at it.
“It’s always a lot of hard work during pre-season but it’s the work you have to put in, to create a good base for our physical condition.
“We want to play with high intensity and we want to be dominant in games, the manager has explained how he wants us to play and we are all enjoying the camp so far.”
Lampard who was successful during his 13 years as Chelsea midfielder is optimistic of being successful as manager at the club.
“Football is littered with stories of inexperienced managers who do spectacularly well and some who don’t, as well as experienced managers who do well or don’t,” Lampard said.
“I believe in myself completely and what I think will define my time here will be my work ethic and what I put into it.
“Nobody has an easy road in football, there are always questions asked of you.
“I haven’t spoken to any of my old managers and as it stands I don’t plan to call any of them.
“We have to start with an intention to win. If I sat here and didn’t say that, then I don’t think I should be here.
“Playing Champions League football is something that should drive us forward. I’m not going to start talking about league positions. Ask me that at the end of the year.”
