Irrespective of the hard economic situation of Nigeria, a middle aged woman has been posing as an official from the Lagos State Governor’s Office at Italian Embassy duping unsuspecting visa seekers.
The woman who looks well polished has been using her fake position to reportedly lure and extort money in a bid to secure visas for some members of the public.
Luck later ran out of Mrs B (Not real name), as she was arrested following an intelligent report.
According to the statement sent out by Gboyega Akosile, Deputy Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babatunde Sanwo-Olu, the suspect, through her e-mail sent a message to the Embassy of Italy in Lagos allegedly posing as an official of Lagos State government.
In the mail, she was seeking the country’s visas for some unsuspecting Nigerians.
On that note, the government said the embassy, wrote to the Governor’s Office to authenticate the claims, which were later found to be false.
It was further gathered that the letter sent in from the Italian embassy led to further investigation and subsequent arrest and interrogation of Mrs. B.
Although, Mrs B denied the allegation claiming that her email was hacked, the Lagos State Governor’s office had sent the matter to the appropriate security agencies for appropriate action.
Meanwhile, the new Lagos State Governor’s office has alerted members of the public to be wary of some people who might fraudulently use the office to commit criminal act.
It also warned that residents should not deal with any persons who paraded themselves as government representatives in consular matters.
