Lampard move to Chelsea not done deal – Derby County owner

Mel Morris, owner of Championship side Derby County, has stated that Frank Lampard moving to Chelsea this summer is not yet a done deal.

Chelsea are said to have agreed a £4m pounds deal with Derby County in order to secure the return of their former midfielder who left the club in 2014.

The English Premier League side are looking at signing him as replacement for Maurizio Sarri who left for Juventus.

However, Mel Morris is hopeful Lampard will remain with Derby County which he almost helped qualify for the EPL last season but was beaten in a play-off by Aston Villa.

Mel Morris said:

“When Frank met me, from the first time we talked about this opportunity, even then we knew at some stage this would happen,” Morris told Talksport.

“We just didn’t know when and we thought it would be some way off.

“Right now it’s still not a done deal as far as I am concerned. I am hoping this guy will manage us next season. At some point it will happen, whether now or in the future.

“We are going to have a tough time if Frank goes. If Frank had done a poor job this wouldn’t be happening.”
