A boat and its operator have been arrested by the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) for ferrying 12 secondary school children without life jackets on Lagos lagoon.
According to Muazu Sambo, the General Manager, Lagos Office, the children took the boat on their way for a school event from Takwa Bay to Osborne which is one of the busiest routes in Lagos.
The owner of the boats and driver, Mr. Balogun Oriyomi and Solomon Gbenga, respectively, will now be handed over to the police the NIWA boss said.
