Nigeria’s welterweight, Kamaru Usman punished three-time defending champion, Tyron Woodley for five rounds to become the new UFC Welterweight Champion.
This win has made Usman the first African-born champion in history of the UFC. Controlling the fight from start to finish, Usman won via a unanimous decision, capturing scores of 50-44, 50-44, and 50-45 on the judges’ scorecard.
Usman now owns a 14-fight win streak and a career record of 14-1. He’s yet to lose in the UFC. “I want you to remember this day forever. Daddy did it,” Usman told his daughter after the match.
He also said, “I’ll be honest, I might not be the best striker or best wrestler in the world. But when it comes to mixing this s— up, I’m the best f—ing welterweight on the planet right now”.
This is Woodley’s first loss since 2014.
