The United States Chamber of Commerce has confirmed a private meeting with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
The development was confirmed in a mail sent to The Cable by the senior manager, media and external communications, US Chamber of Commerce, Katherine Cooksey. It was further gathered that no reporters will be able to attend the meeting.
She reportedly stated: “Thank you for reaching out to us. The event you mention is private, closed press, and off the record.
“Only US-Africa Business Center members are invited. No reporters will be able to attend.”
The US Chamber of Commerce is the largest lobbying group in the country and spends more money than any other lobbying organization on a yearly basis.
Its specific economic and political leanings enables it to play major roles in American elections and in creating jobs in the world’s largest economy.
Atiku has built his presidential campaign around his ability to get Nigeria’s economy moving, with the tagline, ‘Atiku means jobs’. However, it is still unclear if the meeting will further aid his quest for job creation in Nigeria.
