At a time when the world seems to have turned its back on embattled R&B singer, R Kelly, Erykah Badu, has a prayer for him.
The singer and close friend of R Kelly’s, made this known during her concert at the Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, over the weekend.
Sadly, fans didn’t take too kindly to her show of support during the concert on a Saturday, January 19, 2019.
Complex magazine confirms that Erika Badu said, “I don’t know how everybody else feel about it, but I’m putting out a prayer right now for R.”
The 47-year-old continued with her appeal despite the negative reactions from her fans at the event.
“I hope he sees the light of day if he’s done all those things that we’ve seen on TV,” she says.
In the midst of the bitter words being thrown at her, Badu reprimands a section of the crowd that screams, “F*ck him!” With a softly spoken, “that’s not love.”
Despite the reactions gotten from her solo stand with R Kelly, Badu took to Twitter to explain her position.
Badu revealed that she had merely been speaking from a place of concern for the embattled singer as well as those her is reported to have abused.
“I love you. Unconditionally. That doesn’t mean I support your poor choices.
“I want healing for you and anyone you have hurt as a result of you being hurt. Is that strange to you ? That’s all I’ve ever said.
“Anything else has been fabricated or taken out of context. – eb”
Recall that R Kelly has since come under heavy fire since Lifetime Channel released the docu-series, “Surviving R Kelly”, which revealed the alleged life of sexual abuse of underaged girls that R Kelly has been living.
It has also been reported that after 30 years of working together, his record label, Sony Music, has dropped him.
This is besides the boycott which has eventually led to the hashtag #muterkelly, and sees stars who have collaborated with R Kelly, dropping their collaborations from all streaming services worldwide.
