Senator representing Kaduna central in the upper chamber, Shehu Sani has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmaker sent a resignation letter to the party’s chairman in Ward 6, Tudun Wada North, Kaduna.
The Cable reports that his decision follows controversies and irregularities trailing the ruling party’s primaries for the forthcoming elections in 2019.
Sani had been cleared by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party as the only candidate for the senatorial district but his long-standing enemy and governor of the state, Nasir el-Rufai, opposed it.
Uba Sani, the preferred candidate of el-Rufai, was declared winner at the primary election conduced in the district.
The serving senator had boycotted the primary and filed an appeal and the party upheld his appeal but the name of el-Rufai’s candidate was sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
