A car theft suspect, Yusuf Duguri has confessed to the crime claiming he did it to raise money to remarry.
26-year-old Duguri was arrested by the Police in Niger state alongside Abubakar Adamu, 45, while negotiating a stolen car in the Suleja area.
The two had a visited a car dealer pretending to want to purchase a car and reportedly zoomed off when allowed to test drive the said car. Reports say they hypnotised the car dealer with charms.
Duguri who claimed to be a professional driver confessed to stealing the car because he lacked a job. He said, “We operate in all the states in the north depending on the location of the vehicle. Once our informant calls us and tells us the location of a vehicle, we will rush there immediately to dispossess the owner. I wanted to stop it (car theft) but when my wife and father died the same day, I had to look for money to remarry because I can’t stay alone. Honestly, my plan was that once I got enough money to marry, I would quit the business,”
According to Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, the suspects confessed to have stolen three vehicles from Bauchi before they were arrested in Suleja.
