An American man has expressed his joy after he received the Super Eagles Jersey as a gift from a Nigerian man he met at the just concluded Russia 2018 world cup.
According to him, he never believed it when the Nigerian told him he was going to send it to him after he told him how much he loved the jersey. To his greatest surprise, the jersey landed at his doorstep all the way from Nigeria.
Read his tweet:
”Met a Nigerian man at the World Cup & told him how much I loved this jersey (sold out everywhere). He took my address and told me he’d mail me one. Didn’t believe him but today this showed up all the way from Nigeria. Random acts of kindness do exist.”
The Super Eagles Jersey and kits were launched on the 1st of June and sold out hours after. The designer, Nike, revealed no plans of restocking the kits which are currently worn by foreigners with pride. That prompted some Nigerians to make replicas which are fast selling.
Months ago, one of those selling the fake jerseys in Nigeria was interviewed by BBC. He spoke of the gains he was making. The counterfeit can be gotten for as low as N4,000 compared to the original that goes for N40, 000. Many Nigerians, even those who can afford the original at its expensive price, have resorted to wearing the fake which really doesn’t look much different from the original. This is due to the delay Nike took in launching the sale and also not launching in Nigeria.
