It was a gloomy, pathetic and sad Monday afternoon the first working day in the month of July for staff and students of Ajebo Community High School Senior and Junior and by extension ASUSS and TESCOM family in Ogun State as six teachers were reportedly involved in a ghastly motor accident .
The news which filtered in around 3pm on Monday afternoon was however sketchy up till late in the evening when we now got the full report.
It was reported that the teachers from the schools in the axis who usually move together in chartered transport vehicle to and from Ibadan where their families are based converged at the usual place of meeting after school hours on Monday afternoon when an oncoming Toyota Camry car which has lost control and was even mounting the road divider swerved towards their side where they were standing and crushed two of them to death on the spot while the other four were rushed to a nearby hospital. According to one of the Ajebo residents who is a transporter and who has been transporting them to and from Ibadan daily who is popularly called “Ogun” ” …it was at the hospital that the third victim was confirmed dead , while the other three who sustained minor injuries have since been discharged yesterday “
Early this Tuesday morning a strong ASUSS delegation which was led by the state Chairman of ASUSS Comrade Akeem Lasisi, the State Secretary, Comrade Banjo Joseph, the State Treasurer Comrade Gbenga Odunlami, the State Auditor, Comrade Ogundele Muyiwa while Comrade Adeyemi Funmi, the Chairman of Abeokuta South was also part of the team, others are Comrade Salako Biodun, Comrade Susan Adebajo, Deputy Chairman and Secretary respectively from Obafemi/Owode and Comrade Asoro Gbenga from Abeokuta South were at Ajebo High School to considerate with the members of staff of the school.
At Ajebo Community High School this morning, the ASUSS local government Chairman Comrade Adewale who incidentally is a Vice Principal in the school and other teachers from schools along the axis were on ground to welcome the State Chairman of the union and his team for the condolence visit to the Principal and teachers of the school .
Tears, grief and emotion were high as the State Chairman, Comrade Akeem Lasisi condoled with everybody and pray that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable and painful loss while promising that he will personally discuss with the TESCOM board and other relevant agencies to see what could be done as incentive from the state government to teachers who died on active service.
This reporter put a call through to the Director of Information of TESCOM, Mr Onasanya Kehinde who simply described the incident as a very sad one. The Principal of Ajebo Community High School Junior School, Mrs Banjo S O who said , ” the three teachers that died were dedicated, effective and hardworking….. their death is a very sad one …” Speaking earlier the senior girl of the school, John Tolulope who spoke with this reporter described the news of the accident and death of their three teachers as devastating and a rude shock to all the students, according to Tolulope the three teachers were lovely, caring and mothers to all the students .
The three teachers that died in the incident were Mrs Giwa, Mrs Onokhomaya and Mrs Olaluyi Aderonke.
