A child in South Africa is reported to be currently suffering myiasis infection after subsequently wearing a cloth without ironing it.
Myiasis is the parasitic infestation of the body of a live mammal by fly larvae (maggots) that grow inside the host while feeding on its tissue.
Twitter user, @EricanM, shared the rather horrible experience of the child who suffered from Myiasis infection. Explaining in the post reasons and circumstances surrounding the incident, we are made to understand that the clothes were aired to dry under the sun and later worn on the child.
Ignorant that an insect had laid eggs on the clothes and due to the fact that the clothes weren’t ironed, the eggs soon latched onto the body of the child
Encouraging people to iron their clothes before wearing them, he shared photos of the end result of the infection.
Below is the warning post:
“These worms are from clothing that was aired to dry on the line & not ironed thereafter. Apparently some insect lays such eggs on the clothing then when zu do not iron the eggs hatch on U & become those worms. Lets iron those clothes, even the briefs & .”
