Below are pictures of how africans dressed to the cinema to see the hit movie, Black Panther. The movie is about a fictional superhero in American comic books which were published by Marvel Comics. The real name of the superhero is T’Challa who is king and protector of the fictional African nation called Wakanda.
The movie stars Ryan Coogler, Michaela Coel, Michael B Jordan, Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright etc. Asides the main casts, it also features 5 Nigerians: Amechi Okocha, Tunde Laleye, Tari Omoro Jr, David Opegbemi and Sope Aluke.
According to reports, “Black Panther” got off to a superhero start in the North American box office, rocketing to the top spot with estimated earnings of $218 million, data showed Sunday. This crushes “Deadpool’s” 2016 Presidents’ Day record of $152.1 million.
Many across the world see the movie as a promotion of the black race and its culture and a break from the norm for movies with an all black cast. With the movie’s success, some quarters still bare racists comments about it with claims that such support from the black community doesn’t get shown when it comes to an all white cast movie.
The Lagos premiere of the highly rated movie took place on Friday 16th of February, at the IMAX Cinemas in Lekki and was in collaboration with Africa’s Global Bank, UBA. In attendance: billionaire Tony Elumelu, Noble Igwe, Ebuka Uchendu, Comedian Bovi and a host of other prominent Nigerians who all wore african attires in the spirit of the movie.
