If Preye Odede has ever accentuated a redefinition, this is
the most prominent! If you ask, we will tell you “I am Real” is
a very accurate attempt which presents the Gospel through art excellently.
The thematic preoccupation of the song is one not too often explored. We all
know the God who parted the sea, made the sun stand still and brought down fire
that consumed a waterlogged alter but how real is God to you? How much do you
trust his saving grace in the midst of the storm you are faced with right now?
Preye Odede illustrates the thematic pre-occupation in the visual using a
linear – yet episodic – plot to relate the realness of God, His omnipresence,
in the face of daunting challenges life throws at one.
Compared with other videos by the Port Harcourt based Gospel minstrel, this
is certainly a redefinition in terms of its state of art. This is not to say he
displayed mediocrity at any point in time but the cutting edge professionalism
in the presentation of “I am Real” shows the brand, Preye Odede in a different
light.
The setting is also symbolic. Shot in the United States by Patrick
Elis, Preye makes use of beautiful landmarks, scenery and structures
to depict God’s awesomeness. The props such as guitar, pen and paper, are
symbolic of Preye’s music ministry which is the vehicle through which the
message in his heart that God is real is being conveyed to us.
