Members of the Redeemed Christian Church
of God, on Saturday, described as shocking, the announcement by Pastor
Enoch Adeboye that he had stepped down as the General Overseer of the
RCCG in Nigeria.
Adeboye had during the church’s annual
thanksgiving service, named Pastor Joseph Obayemi as the new general
overseer and added that Pastor Johnson Odesola would be Secretary while
Pastor Joseph Adeyokunnu is the new Treasurer.
A pastor who chose to remain anonymous linked Adeboye’s decision to the law of the nation.
He said, “I attended that meeting. Daddy
just obeyed the law of the nation which says no general overseer can
stay in office for more than 20 years. It is better for us to get into
politics and change that law because there are no Christians in the
‘house’ to fight against such laws.”

Akisanya, said she was deeply saddened by the development, adding, “I
don’t like the news but I believe it is the will of God. He (Adeboye) is
truly a man of God. I can only pray that RCCG continues to stand
strong.”

Titi Sowemimo, a member, who didn’t
initially believe the news wrote on Facebook, “What sort of a rumour is
this, my man of God! Lawmakers need to focus on more important things
for the nation than to come up with a law such as the one governing the
stay of general overseers. God help us all.”
