The Osun state police command, in collaboration with the security
unit of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, have arrested 236 persons
after a raid was conducted at the Redemption Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan
Expressway.
According to the Punch, an official in the RCCG security unit said the raid was a routine “clean up.”
He stated that the security unit had asked those that had no genuine reason to be on the church grounds, to leave.
“On Friday when many of them were still around, over 100 officials
made up of the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,
Department State Services, security department of the church and
volunteers of the church, went round and some people were taken away by
the police.”
The official noted that the raid was necessary so as to keep individuals in the RCCG camp safe.
“We don’t have rapists or armed robbers in the camp. There was just a
need to keep the camp safe from people of questionable character.”
Speaking on the arrests made, the Ogun State Police Command
Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that the raid was to remove
individuals with questionable character from the RCCG camp ground and
forestall any crime.
He said that of the 236 arrested, 165 were male while 71 were female.
