Valuables
were carted away early Saturday morning by some armed robbers who
invaded the residence of National Youth Corps members serving in Ogun
State.
The residence is located behind Development Centre, Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The
robbery at the lodge, which is the third within five months, occurred
at about 3:00am when the Youth Corps members were fast asleep.
Items lost include some amount of money, ten laptops and over twenty-five telephones.
An
eyewitness account has it that the bandits exploited the absence of
security in the vicinity to gain access to the lodge and at gun point
robbed the Youth Corps members.
Some of the victims who spoke with
our correspondent but preferred to remain anonymous, said the gang
numbering about four escaped through a foot path after the operation.
According
to one of the victims, “the robbers arrived our residence at about
3.00am. They forced their way into each flat at gun point and thereafter
embarked on the raid, unhindered. Two of the bandits moved from one
room to the other to ransack, while the other two stayed outside to
attack anybody that resisted.
“The robbers made away with money, ten laptops and over twenty-five mobile phones.
“They
left behind our certificates and other educational documents earlier
stolen alongside other valuables. This is the third time robbers would
be raiding us.”
The Youth Corps members said they had earlier
reported the two previous incidents to the police but no action was
taken until the robbers struck again on Saturday morning.
They
passionately appealed to the security agencies to come to provide
adequate security for them before the bandits begin to maim or killing
them if they come and find nothing to steal anymore.
“We are
begging security authorities in the state and NYSC authorities to come
to our aid before the bandits start killing us,” a Youth Corps member
who graduated from the University of Ilorin stated.
Efforts to
get the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Olumuyiwa
Adejobi, to react to the matter proved abortive as his lines were not
going through.
Police sources who confirmed the incident, informed that efforts are ongoing to provide adequate surveillance in the area.
Residents
of the area have equally resolved to form community security measure in
tackling the incessant robberies in the quarters.
