A few weeks ago, it was widely reported Nigeria had elected it’s first female Governor, when Aisha Al-Hassan of APC was declared winner of the Taraba State – April 12th Guber elections….well, the election was cancelled and when another was conducted last weekend, she didn’t win.
At the end of Saturday April 25th’s re-elections, INEC declared Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate Darius Ishiaku, the winner with 360,318 votes, while Mrs Al Hassan of APC received 275,985. votes.
However Al Hassan who put up a very strong showing in the lead up to
the race is not accepting the declaration of Darius Ishaku as winner.
She insists she will challenge the elections which she described as
“daylight robbery characterised by violence, massive rigging, ballot
snatching and abuse of the card readers in substantial parts of the
state by the PDP and their allies,”
It would have been great to finally have an elected female governor!
