So I found this report on Nairaland, enjoy!
Mocheddah held a lot of promises in the Nigerian music industry in 2010.
She released her debut album ”Franchise Celebrity ” with 2 hit singles
Koma Roll & If You want me, bagged an MTV Award for BEST NEW ACT
& Channel O Music Award. She did some collabos around Africa and the
continent was watching out for her as the NEXT POP SUPERSTAR. The sky
was her starting point and her music career was booming. All these were
made possible by her label KNIGHTHOUSE.
During that time, Mocheddah
was arguably the biggest female artiste in Nigeria. Tiwa Savage was
still upcoming likewise Wizkid. In 2011, she released another hit single
SEE ME ft Phenom which rocked the airwaves in Nigeria & around
Africa. And her market started selling seriously. After this, she seemed
to disappear from the industry.
Then came 2012 when we started hearing
rumours that Mocheddah has parted ways with Knighthouse her record
label. The rumour became a reality cos she truly left and established
her own label CHEDDAH MUSIC. This move started her decline in the
industry cos she shot herself in the foot. Being a CEO of a record label
and an artiste at the same time wasn’t easy.
She went ahead to
release 3 singles after being away from the industry for so long. She
shot the video for LOUDER, one of the singles but lo and behold both the
classy video and the singles did not do well in the market because it
seems fans have started to sleep on her by then. The reason being that
when she left the industry for a while, Tiwa Savage came back from
America and claimed the throne from her as NIGERIA’S QUEEN OF POP. And
she amassed so much fans that Mocheddah’s original fans started
forgetting her. Cos during Mocheddah’s exit, Nigeria was lacking a POWER
FEMALE ARTISTE and Tiwa Savage came at the right time.
In September
2012, Mocheddah made another attempt at breaking into Mainstream Music
in Nigeria by releasing another single COMING FOR YOU ft May D. The song
did relatively well but since there was no video for it, it fizzled
out. Since then, Mocheddah seems to have gone into oblivion. Nothing was
heard about her in the music industry again.
Personally I think
Mocheddah made a very big mistake by leaving Knighthouse Record. Though I
didn’t know what caused the separation, but I think she should have
stayed for the sake of her career. By now, she would have been so BIG in
the Industry. I guess other upcoming artistes should learn from her
story.
