A woman has threatened to divorce her husband of 30 years because of a bizarre habit he has when he’s asleep.
The
man’s wife has threatened to leave him unless he allows doctors to
diagnose his strange sleeping habit that sees him unwittingly kick and
punch her in his sleep . .
.
In fact, she’s so fed up that she’s even filed domestic abuse charges against her 60-year-old partner, surnamed Wu. .
.
Wu,
from Taichung City in West Taiwan, said he began talking in his sleep
about 10 years ago, but – at least according to his wife – in the past
five years he would flail his arms and legs at night, accidentally
hitting his poor spouse as she slept beside him. .
.
After
having finally checked himself into the Kuang Tian General Hospital, Wu
was told that he suffers from REM sleep behaviour disorder. .
.
In
short, Doctor Yang Chun-bei said, the disorder causes Wu to physically
act out his dreams instead of just letting them play out in his mind
like regular humans do. .
.
The odd behaviour happens only during deep REM sleep – short for “rapid eye movement” – which is when dreaming occurs. .
.
Wu
spent several days at the hospital’s sleep studies centre, where
cameras trained on his bed revealed his nightly “kung fu” adventures. .
.
Wu
said his activities sometimes become so intense that he “flies” out of
bed screaming and shouting, terrifying his wife. ?: Asian Wire,
