Return Home To Prove Your Worth, Bello To Melaye

The Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, yesterday challenged the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that fled the state to return home and build the party together with government.

Apparently referring to the leaders that include the state chairman of APC, Alhaji Hadi Ametuo, and members of the State Executive Council, the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye, the deputy governorship candidate of the party in the last governorship election, James Faleke, the governor said they should return home and prove their political worth.

The leaders, particularly the state chairman and majority of members of the executive council, have since the emergence of the governor fled the state to Abuja, which led to their being referred to as diaspora politicians.

Bello, who spoke at the stakeholders meeting of the party held at the party secretariat in Lokoja, preparatory to the state congress scheduled for Saturday, said every grassroots politician should return to the state to play politics.

He stated that he had never pursued anybody out of the state, saying the people should come back home to build the APC.

The governor said, “We must respect our party since the party is supreme, people that are on ground are here, those that are not here should come down home and participate in this state congress.”

“Every politician that is deeply rooted in the grassroots should come back home, we must join hands together to build a strong party. We are going to ensure that APC sweeps the next election in Kogi state.”

Bello however noted that the party in the state remained strong and united, saying efforts would be made to make it grow and be a preferred platform for electoral victory.

The chairman, Kogi state national delegate committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, said the congress was meant to further strengthen internal democracy in the party.

Police Arrest Herbalist For Alleged Fraud

The Edo State Police Command said it has arrested an Osun-based herbalist, identified as one Usman Mohammed, for allegedly defrauding a woman of the sum of N6m.

The victim was said to have given him the money for ritual purposes in order to increase the amount to N12m. But Usman, who was paraded on Thursday in Benin, told Southern City News that his victim lost the money because she was looking for what she did not keep.

He, however, confirmed that he got half of the amount received from the woman as his share, while the remaining was shared among other members of his team.

Usman said, “I live in Osun State and I was arrested in Osun State. She (victim) is from Benin (Edo State). She patronised my office because I do ‘medicine’ for her. Before she requested for money ritual, she said I should do something to make her business to grow.

“When she requested for money rituals, I said she must bring the money. She said she had N6m. I told her to bring a big bag and the money. I told her to keep the bag somewhere and the money will double to N12m and that was what she requested.

“She kept the bag in her room for three days and the day she opened it, there was no money inside. I told her she was the reason the money did not double. I got N3m but the other people ran away. She is looking for what she did not keep.”

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Haliru Gwandu, noted that suspects paraded would be charged to court at the end of investigations.

Why we are silent on Diezani's loot allegation-PDP

The People's Democratic Party has explained why it has been silent on allegations of looting by former petroleum minister, Diezani Madueke.

The spokesperson for the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, at a press briefing on Friday said ,the former ruling party would not make any comment on the allegations against Diezani and other members of the party, who were being tried for corruption.

He noted that the publicity given to the corruption allegations against Diezani and others were intended to portray the PDP as a party of corrupt people.
He said, “The only thing you need to do today is to defect to the APC and all your sins would be forgiven. All APC members are saints and others are sinners.
“How can the EFCC make allegations and convict us by itself? It is the one making allegations and it is the one convicting people.
“Until a court of competent jurisdiction pronounces the suspects guilty, they remain just suspects and innocent as well. So, we won’t talk about those issues.
“If there is a genuine case against her or any other person, please go to court and establish that they are corrupt. You can’t just claim that you have found someone with money you suspect was illegally acquired and pronounce such person guilty. You need to go to court and establish it.”

Nnamdi Kanu Violated His Bail Condition -FG

Lt-Gen Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (retd), the Minister of Interior, has accused the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, of violating the bail conditions given him by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

While speaking on the issue during a press conference held in his office in Abuja yesterday, he said:
“Nnamdi Kanu violates bail conditions but it is not time yet for him to go back to the court on trial. .
We have this assumption but I think it is left for the court that gave those conditions to determine whether those conditions were violated or not. If those conditions were violated, the court knows what to do. .
We cannot assume that those conditions are being violated. Yes, the public knows those conditions given but the determination of the extent of violation will be left for the court.
It is not like the police will go after Kanu to arrest him on the grounds that he violated the bail conditions. Kanu will have a day in court and the court will determine his fate because it is the court that gave those conditions.” .

Police After My Life, Widow Cries To IGP

A 43-year-old widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Iheme, has called on the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, to save her life, following alleged threats by policemen at the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Abuja.

She said the policemen were being sponsored by some relatives of her late husband, Chief Emeka Emenike Iheme. She told Saturday Vanguard, that some of her late husband’s siblings were using the policemen to appropriate her husband’s properties, located in Lagos and Abia states.

The widow, who is a Sierra Leonean, but married to a Nigerian from Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, said her husband, who died at the age of 53, on December 4, 2016, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital LUTH, left no Will.

She, however, alleged that after his burial, his siblings led by one Kachi Iheme ejected her children and her out of the husband’s new building in his home town.

The mother of two also disclosed that a few weeks after the burial, a Will emanated from her in-laws and a female lawyer, in Abia State.

She added that after the Will was read, she discovered that it had questionable contents. She said the Will stated that her husband’s property in Lagos State, which is located in Isheri Olofin should be sold off while the proceeds would be given to his siblings, an orphanage, and his friends.

The children and their mother were to be given a negligible portion of the proceeds. She explained that she was shocked when she read the contents of the Will, adding that it was prepared by her in-laws.

She added that she had been her husband’s next of kin, adding that they were married for 17 years while they courted for six years.

Mrs. Iheme, told Saturday Vanguard that she wrote a petition to the Police through the Force Annex Headquarters Alagbon, asking them to investigate the authenticity of the purported Will.

She said the police, at the General Investigation Department, Alagbon discovered after the investigation, which included forensic auditing, that the said Will was fake as the signature on it did not match her husband’s signature.

She said: “We gave the Police my husband’s documents which had the signature he used in the banks and they discovered that the Will was fake.

They arrested the lawyer who claimed my husband gave her the Will on his sick bed. She was detained in police custody at Alagbon.

The police even took her to court 48 hours later and obtained a remand order to keep her in custody pending when her trial would commence at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi.

‘’But some policemen came from Force CID and told me that I was under arrest for using the police to intimidate and harass a lawyer. I explained to them what was happening and they left me and returned to Abuja. Two weeks after that another set of policemen came looking for me.

This time they were led by a Woman Deputy Superintendent of Police and I was told that they were from Homicide Section of the Force CID. I wasn’t at home when they came, but my son who saw them said one of his uncles were with them.

The lawyer, who ought to be in police custody, has been released. I have been receiving threatening calls from different people. Some even came to my house and wrote that the house is not for sale on the walls.

They also damaged my vehicle tires. I am currently on the run because I don’t know what these people have against my children and I. I am calling on IGP Idris to come to my aid and save me from death.”
