NYSC
temporary orientation camp in Paikoro, Niger State, was on Monday
invaded by hoodlums who carted away corps members properties.
According
to reports, the robbers struck as early as 6am when the corps members
were preparing to leave the camp to their place of primary assignment.
The robbers made away with stolen include fans, mattresses and bedsheets.
Sources
state that the robbers pretended to be NYSC officials util they were
found out and alarm was raised which alerted security agents in the
camp.
The security agents were able to arrest a suspect in
connection with the theft while some stolen items were traced to the
staff quarters of the Government Secondary School.
Items recovered includd six fans that were purchased for the male and female hostels.
Niger
state NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Theresa Arokoyo, said such an incident
would not have occurred if the NYSC had a permanent orientation camp in
the state, adding that this is not the first time such will occur.
“This development always compels the NYSC authority to spend extra money each time we resume for orientation,’’ she said.
Niger
State Acting Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ketso, said that the government
was making efforts to ensure that the permanent orientation camp is
ready before the end of 2017.
