Jonathan's Minister of Defence, Obanikoro Finally Joins APC

A chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Musiliu Obanikoro, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
 
According to The Sun, the former Minister of State for Defence under Goodluck Jonathan, announced his defection at a press conference, in Lagos, on Tuesday.
 
He was received by a former chieftain of the PDP, Lukman Ajose, who recently defected to the APC.
 
Obanikoro had earlier apologised and reconciled with National leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.


 SON seizes N8b fake cables in Lagos
Yesterday, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) seized over N8billion worth of cloned cables at two residential buildings in the Ajangbadi area of Lagos.

Made-in-Nigeria cables and other brands were cloned in China.SON Director, Inspectorate and Compliance Bede Obayi who conducted reporters round the fake projects ,said the items belonged to Estobest Electrical Limited.


He said the company targeted and cloned Nigerian cables already certified by the SON, in deceptive packages.The SON chief said:

 “All these cloned Nigerian cables were made in China, but packaged as made-in-Nigeria products.
“You know we are proud of made-in-Nigeria cables, because it is about the  best cable all over the world. This illegal act will not be accepted. SON will not allow it. We are going to go after the importer and prosecute him.”
“Nobody can imagine someone coming down here to fully stock two buildings with substandard cables. These are purported to be Nigerian brands but made in China”,

 

  52% Kogi West voters endorse Melaye’s recall
The move to recall the senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye may have gotten to new heights as voters in his senatorial district are said to have signed the document initiating his recall.

A total of 188, 588 voters, representing 52.3 per cent of the total number of registered voters in Kogi West senatorial district have approved the recall of Melaye.


The Special Adviser to the state governor on political affairs, Mr Pius Kolawole announced this on Monday in Lokoja while addressing party members from the district,NAN reports

He said that the collation of signatures of voters to that effect was carried out successfully on June 17.

Kolawole commended voters in the district for turning out en masse for the exercise, saying that Section 69 of the 1999 constitution backed their action.


“In 2015, we voted for Dino and now we are using the same method to return him home,” he said.

According to Yusuf, with this, the next move is to submit the document to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the next action.
A rape victim in Katsina State has slashed the manhood of her attacker with a razor while attempting to free herself.

 The alleged rapist, 30-year-old Bishir Yau of Yargase village in the Kankara Local Government Area of the state, was arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrate’s Court on a rape charge.

A rape victim in Katsina State has slashed the manhood of her attacker with a razor while attempting to free herself.

 The alleged rapist, 30-year-old Bishir Yau of Yargase village in the Kankara Local Government Area of the state, was arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrate’s Court on a rape charge.

 The police told the court on Monday during Bishir’s arraignment that sometime in May, he allegedly lured the 14-year-old victim, who was residing in the same house with him, into a nearby uncompleted building and “forcefully had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.”


 The police, through the First Information Report with number, KT/741X/17, read in court, said, “While struggling to free herself from the suspect, the victim picked up a razor and cut his manhood.”
 The magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, adjourned the case till July 19, 2017, directing that Bishir be remanded in police custody.

Son Kills Mother For Refusing To Pay Grandson School Fees
A 37-year-old man, Alex, has struck his 59-year-old mother, Mrs. Florence Ederiene, dead with firewood at Agbarha Otor community, near Ughelli, Delta State, for allegedly refusing to pay the school fees of his son, Godstime, a grandson of the deceased.

Contacted on the incident, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, said that the police were alerted about the murder of Mrs. Florence Ederiene by a sister to the suspect, Blessing.

He said that the deceased died on the spot and the remains were deposited at the mortuary of Central Hospital, Ughelli, for autopsy.


 His words: ” On 13/06/2017 at about 1030hrs, one Blessing Ederiene ‘f’ of Umuose street, Agbarha Otor, reported that her brother, one Alex Ederiene, ‘m’ 37 years of Festac village, Agbarha Otor, murdered their mother by hitting her with a fire wood on the head for refusing to pay the school fees of his son, one Godstime Alex ‘m,’ being the deceased’s grandson.’


 

  Ajimobi To Install CCTV Cameras In Ibadan
The Oyo State government has promised to install close circuit television (CCTV) cameras in strategic locations across the state, Governor Abiola Ajimobi said yesterday.

The move, the governor said, would place Oyo among the league of states and communities under the “safe city project”.

Ajimobi spoke in Ibadan, the state capital, when he hosted the United States (U.S) Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington.


Addressing the ambassador and his entourage, Ajimobi said the state, hitherto known for violence and brigandage, changed its course when his administration came in in 2011.

According to him, CCTV cameras will be installed at strategic locations known to be red spots or crisis-prone for close monitoring of the state.


Two Feared Dead As Task Force, Hausa Traders Clash In Rivers 
About two people have been feared killed with places of worship burnt as Hausa traders and some youths, believed to be local government task force team in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, clashed.

Vanguard gathered that trouble started when some youths from Eleme, who are operating as a task force, went to Opaku Park in Onne to demand a payment of taxes from Hausa traders doing business in the area.

An eyewitness, Mr. Franklin Bobmanuel, narrated that the youths became angry when the traders declined paying the tax and the ensuing argument resulted in a free-for-all.


Bobmanuel said one of the tax officials died during the fight and his colleagues, on noticing that one of them had died, killed one of the traders in retaliation.

Vanguard also learned that a church and a mosque in the area were burnt down. Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the state’s Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed that the two groups clashed in Eleme and that the incident led to burning of a Church and a Mosque.

Omoni said: “We are aware of the incident, but I am yet to get details of what happened. We have swung into action and our men have been deployed to the area to maintain calm. “We are investigating the matter; we will make the report available as soon as we are through.”
