IPOB Welcomes Arewa Quit Notice, Pleads For Time To Relocate
THE Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed gratitude to Arewa groups for having the courtesy to give the Igbo an advance warning to vacate northern Nigeria.

The group, however, pleaded for ample time for Igbo to relocate back to the south.

Some Arewa youth groups had recently issued three months quit notice from the north to Igbo residing there.

Although the call was roundly criticised by northern governors and stakeholders, spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) Ango Abdullahi, on Friday, expressed support for the youth groups.

Reacting in a statement signed by Emma Powerful, IPOB assured the Arewa groups that its people will heed the warning and leave northern Nigeria.

IPOB called on all southerners in the north to start exiting the region as soon as possible.

“We the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and it’s leadership worldwide wish to sincerely thank the Arewa Elders Forum(AEF), Arewa Youths and Arewa Consultative Forum for seeing sense in what IPOB has been saying about the need for a referendum to be conducted in Nigeria to decide the fate of the component ethnic nationalities criminally lumped together by the British in 1914,” the statement read.

“Biafrans in general also wish to thank these vocal Northerners for at least having the courtesy to issue advance warning this time before embarking on their routine massacre of Igbos and other Biafrans living in Northern Nigeria; unlike what their fathers did in 1966 when death, destruction and mayhem were unleashed upon unsuspecting innocent civilian populations from the South comprising of mostly Igbo men, women and children.

“Igbo massacres in Northern Nigeria has occurred so many times that it has almost become some sort of an annual sporting activity for blood thirsty Northern youths. That is why we are particularly grateful to Arewa Youths and Elders for having the decency to give us prior notice before the slaughter commences.

“We promise to adhere to your warning to leave Northern Nigeria because a word is enough for the wise. Biafrans and other Southerner should start packing their properties to come down to the South. We also advice the Northern youths and their Elders to keep it on because all they have done is exercise their right to free speech which is not a crime under any law known to man. We are therefore against those calling for the arrest of these Arewa Youths and their Elders.

“It is abundantly evident from the genocidal statements coming from certain influential segments of Northern Nigeria that the British socio-political experimentation and economic fraud we know today as Nigeria, should not have been created in the first place. IPOB is very much aware of the covert blackmail and implied threat inherent in the utterances emanating from Islamic Northern Nigeria.

“Furthermore, the assumption that economic investments of Biafrans in the Northern part of the contraption called Nigeria is an impediment to Biafra restoration project is misguided and most definitely misplaced. This is cheap blackmail designed to trigger rancour among Biafra populations because the North have always assumed and wrongly too, that Igbos will place economic well being over and above their life. This assumption is based on a false premise and one we are determined to prove same as events unfold in the coming weeks and months.

“IPOB under the divine leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is the instrument Chukwu Okike Abiama (God Almighty) is using to restore Biafra, therefore we are not afraid of our enemies, neither will any threat or violence from any quarter deter us. We remain peaceful in our noble quest to restore Biafra but we must caution that we always retain the right as a people to defend ourselves should the need arise.

“The civilised world is aware that we IPOB have been adopting peaceful means to restore Biafra since 2014. It is the Arewa Islamic Northern Nigeria dominated Army, Police, Navy and Civil Defence that has brought torture, killings, massacres and mayhem to communities and populations in the South. Till date, nobody has been held to account despite the existence of a comprehensive Amnesty International report to this effect.

“We are aware that these Northern youths and their sponsors Britain, have perfected plans to begin another round of killing of innocent people as the did in 1966. We advise them not to make this mistake because Britain will no longer protect Islamic Northern Nigeria because in this digital age, the world is watching. Allow Biafrans time to relocate peacefully back to Bafraland, that is all we ask.”

Dino Melaye Insists On Magu’s Removal As EFCC chairman
At the valedictory session marking the second anniversary of the 8th Senate yesterday, the controversy over President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to remove Mr. Ibrahim Magu as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was reopened.

Senator Dino Melaye, in his remarks at the session, accused President Buhari of selectively applying the law by retaining Magu as Acting Chairman of the EFCC.

The lawmaker said this in the presence of prominent guests at the special session, including two former Senate Presidents, Pius Anyim and Iyorcha Ayu; Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Atiku Bagudu; Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Walid Jibrin; National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; and wife of the incumbent Senate President, Mrs. Toyin Saraki. Melaye urged the Senate to take a decisive action on Magu’s retention.

He said, “The persecution we went through in the first two years must not continue in the second half. Mr. President, in leading us in this second half, you must put on your seatbelt; it is dangerous to drive without a seat belt.

“Where we need to speak the truth as senators, we must speak the truth no matter whose ox is gored. We must begin to identify that there is a uniform law in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. No longer shall we allow the selective application of the law of the land.

“Mr. President (Saraki), we have passed some people on the floor of this Senate and these people that we have also disqualified by confirmation have been replaced by Mr. President (Buhari). That means that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, transparent Muhammadu Buhari, recognises the powers of the Senate to confirm.

“Why is Magu still in office? Mr. President, the truth is the truth. We should not have selective application of the rule of law. It is one law for everybody. I may be arrested immediately after this session; prison is built for people and not for animals. I am telling you, Mr. President, posterity will not forgive us when we keep silent in the face of lies and persecution. As a Senate, we must preserve the integrity of this institution.”

The Senate had rejected Magu’s appointment based on an indicting report by the Department of State Services.

The legislature had also asked the President to nominate someone else as head of the anti-graft agency.

But the Presidency had insisted on Magu, a development that caused a face-off between the executive and the legislature.

Air Peace Flights Disrupted Over Alleged Debt

Nigerian air carrier, Air Peace, yesterday  threatened to go to court and demand compensation over what it described as loss incurred for the disruption of its operations at the Enugu Airport.

Premium Times gathered that the disruption followed disagreements over a N7 million debt the airline allegedly owes the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

But the chairman of the airline, Allen Onyema, said the airline had paid its debt, and threatened to sue the federal government, calling the disruption a sabotage.

Mr. Onyeama blamed the manager of the airport, Mgbemena Orjiakor, for the disruption. He said if the airline was not adequately compensated for its losses, it will go to court. “I got a call this that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, (FAAN) stopped our operations in Enugu over N7 million naira debt, which we have already paid.

“The airport manager did not go back to check his books to know if we actually paid or not but hurriedly stopped our operations, a situation that is costing us millions of naira.

“We do not know if the airport manager is sponsored by someone to bring down Air Peace because even after Lagos sent evidence of the payment, rather than own up to the fact that the agency lacked proper accounting system, the agency said the airline is owing an outstanding N1.8 million. This is why I said this act is sabotage,” he said.

According to Mr. Onyeama, another airline that owes over N11 billion to the government was allowed to operate that morning but Air Peace was temporarily shut down over N7 million it already paid.

“When I called the Enugu Airport manager to complain to him about the situation, he answered me rudely, saying I was talking like a riffraff,” he said.

“This same airport manager does not know that he is employed today because of the airline. How can he call me riffraff?

“If we are not adequately compensated for our losses, we promise the government that we will go to court. This is part of the reasons why airlines in Nigeria do not survive,” he said.

Commenting further, Mr. Onyema added: “I had to call Saleh Dunoma, the managing director of FAAN who was not aware of the situation. He politely told me that he will handle it and he was very sorry about the situation.

“The director of commercials also got across to me and also told me he was looking into the situation and they will get back to me.

“The director of human resources also got across to me and pleaded with me. Orjiakor…will have to explain to the world who sent him because I believe this is outright sabotage. That station manager was not remorseful.”

When contacted, FAAN’s spokesman, Henrietta Yakubu, said Air Peace had paid N2 million out of its outstanding N7 million debt prior to the disruption of its operations.

Mrs. Yakubu who apologised for the inconvenience the situation might have caused the airline and its passengers. She assured that FAAN would ensure there was no recurrence.
