Couple are found dead in bed after terminally ill wife took her own life and her husband of 30 years killed himself right after

The story of Donald and Sandra Lee Cragin sounds a bit like the story tragic romance story of Romeo and Juliet. The couple, who have been married for thirty years took their lives only three weeks to their 31st wedding anniversary which would have been on Valentine's day.

Donald Lee Cragin, 65, and Sandra Lee Cragin, 55, were found dead, lying side by side on their bed at home in Shaws Mill Road, Standish, Maine, US, after they both took their own lives a few minutes apart.

Sandra Cragin, a mother-of-two and a grandmother, took her life first having been diagnosed a decade ago with Huntington's disease, a terminal genetic disorder, the same disease that killed her father.

Sandra took her own life first by overdosing on pills after leaving a note for her husband. Donald who could not live without her took his own life soon after. Their body was discovered at about 12.30pm on January 24 by Michael Sullivan, Sandra’s brother when he stopped by her house to check up on her and Donald, as he often did. He found the door unlocked and a note taped to it asking him to come in. He went in to find his sister lying in bed under the covers and her husband beside her.

The police were called in and they do not suspect foul play.

Mr President is not ill, not in the hospital – Lai Mohammed

Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday said that, President Muhammadu Buhari, had become a victim of his own transparency in relation to his current vacation abroad.
He equally said that “Mr President is not ill, he is not in hospital and there is no reason to give anybody any bulletin about his health, pure and simple,’’ The Minister said this while addressing State House Correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on the eagerness of Nigerians to know Buhari’s health status. According to him, the President is hale and hearty and absolutely in no danger. “I can say it without any equivocation, Mr President is well, he is hale and he is hearty; no question about that. “I want to assure you, Mr President is well and he is in absolutely no danger. “Mr. President, like I said elsewhere, is probably a victim of his own transparency. Lai Mohammed “He was going on leave, he did what the constitution said he should do, transmitted it to the National Assembly and Acting President was put in place. “And he said `while I am on leave, I am going to conduct some medical tests’ which many, or all of us do without announcing it.’ Mohammed said it was surprising that in less than six hours after Buhari got to London, he was pronounced dead by some people. He noted with regret that even those who saw the President climb the Aircraft in Abuja claimed that he was flown by an Ambulance.
The Minister recalled that the Acting President had spoken with Buhari on a daily basis and had re assured Nigerians about his talking with Buhari. “I can assure you that the President is well he is hale and hearty and there is absolutely no cause for concern,’’ Mohammed declared. Reacting to insinuations that the Ministry of Information ought to be releasing hourly bulletins on the President’s health condition, Mohammed said there was no need for that. “Mr President is not ill, he is not in hospital and there is no reason to give anybody any bulletin about his health, pure and simple,’’ he said. The minister noted that all organs of government were working with the Ministers carrying out their normal duties across the country noting that there was no cause for alarm.

Husband beats wife for not worshiping idol

A fashion designer, Omotolani Alele, on Wednesday told an Idi-Ogungun Customary Court, Agodi, Ibadan that her husband beat her each time she refused to worship his family idol.

Omotolani, who lives at Ojoo area of Ibadan, had approached the court for dissolution of her five-year-old marriage on grounds of brutality and threat to her life by her husband, Anthony.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that hearing in the case began on February 1 and was adjourned till February 8 for the defendant to produce their marriage certificate.

The plaintiff had refuted the claim of her husband that they were legally married.
However, at the resumed hearing of the case today, the husband failed to produce the marriage certificate.

In her testimony before the court, Omotolani had said that the union, blessed with a three-year-old child, had been a regrettable one due to daily ill treatment from Anthony.

“My husband asked me to join him to worship his family idol several times but l refused, and this made him to beat me always.

“His parents did not want him to marry me but we came together since he claimed to love me but he changed.

“He even took the only child of the union from me and cannot really say where he kept my child.

“I pray the court to grant my request for divorce; I am not ready to worship any idol and l don’t want to die young due to his constant beating,’’ Omotolani pleaded.

The defendant did not object to the petition.

The Court President, Mukaila Balogun, consequently upheld the request of the petitioner and dissolved the union.

He held that the evidence before the court proved that both parties were not ready for amicable resolution of their conflict.

He gave the custody of the child to the plaintiff and directed the defendant to pay N4,000 monthly for the upkeep of the child.

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Youths Renaissance has faulted the 74-hour ultimatum given to the Federal Government by the Save Nigeria Group to disclose the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari to Nigerians.

The group claimed that after a review of the demand reached the by SNG, it concluded that President Buhari breached no law by not disclosing his ailment to the public.

The Save Nigeria Group (SNG), had yesterday given the Presidency a 74-hour ultimatum, to provide full information on the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a letter titled “Request for information on President Muhammadu Buhari’s health status” and addressed to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SNG said it was important for the information to be provided, to ease tension in the country.

Speaking on the matter, the North Central Coordinator of APC Youths Renaissance Honourable Abubakar Yakubu asked the Save Nigeria Group to tell the world which section of the Nigerian constitution has the President violated by not disclosing his health situation to Nigerians? Saying the President as a public servant still enjoys his right to personal liberty which must not be invaded.

He further noted that if the President should disclose his ailment to the public, it should be done out of choice and not out of necessity.

The group said they are ready to stage a counter protest in defence of Mr. President if the Save Nigeria Group decides to hold their protest at the expiration of the 74-hour ultimatum given to the Federal Government.
