Jungle Justice in Nigeria: Police react to viral photo of 7 year old boy beaten and burnt to death in Lagos

Photos of a seven year old boy beaten and burnt to death yesterday in Lagos went viral today and lots of people tagged the police on various social media platform. Reports say he was caught while trying to steal garri from a shop.

Though there have been conflicting reports especially concerning the age of the victim or what he actually stole, eyewitnesses say he was caught while trying to break into a shop where food stuff are sold in the early hours of Tuesday, November 15, 2015.

The suspect, it was gathered, was nabbed by some men in the area who descended on him and beat him to a pulp before hanging a tire on his neck and setting him on fire, despite pleas by many to hand him over to the police since he had not actually committed the crime.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Shogunle, who is the officer in charge of the Complaints Response Unit (CRU), at the Force headquarters, Abuja, took to his Twitter handle to clarify that the person that was killed was a man and not a boy, and that the corpse is currently in the mortuary for autopsy, and investigation on how he died is on going.

  3. I'm just weak! What's going on? Who are these cruel people watching and taking pictures, recording? Are there no parents around that could take this boy from them. When our politicians are milking us dry and still walk freely? Why are there no love again in the world? Why do we claim to love God and see people attacking others without anyone interfenes? I'm sick to my stomach reading this, jungle justice is not good, especially when we have rogue as politicians and no one put a finger on them. My heart bleeds! 😢 😢 either a boy or man no one deserves this...😢 the person behind this need to be in jail.
