Nigerian Army reacts to Shekau’s new video, says he’s mad
The Nigerian military has reacted to the new video footage released by the Boko Haram on Sunday where Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the group, declared that he’s alive and in good health.The military had last month claimed that Shekau was fatally injured in the shoulder in an air strike by the Nigeria Airforce in Sambisa forest during which many Boko Haram commanders were killed.
In its reaction to the new Boko Haram video, Nigerian Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, described Shekau as mentally sick and unstable. He urged members of the public to ignore him as the group’s ability to fight has been degraded.

African Development Bank to invest $10bn in Nigeria

The African Development Bank says it will increase its investment in Nigeria by $4.1 billion between 2016 and 2017 and raise it up to $10 billion by 2019.
The Bank’s President, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, gave the indication while speaking with State House Correspondents after its delegation met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the Economic Management Team.
Adesina said that the bank would support the Federal Government in its budget to enable it to deal with the current economic challenges.
 

FG appoints new heads for NEPAD, PTDF, others

The Federal Government has approved the appointment of 13 Chief Executives in some parastatals and agencies, thereby marking an end to the tenure of various occupants of the positions.
A statement issued on Monday evening by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Bolaji Adebiyi, with Ref. No. PPR/OSGF/PR/03, said the appointments were approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
While Joseph Ari was named Director-General of Industrial Training Fund, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), becomes the Director-General of National Information Technology Development Agency.
The government also appointed Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote, Executive Secretary of Nigerian Content Monitoring Board, while Osita Anthony Aboloma becomes DG of Standard Organisation of Nigeria.
Mamman Amadu is the DG of Bureau of Public Procurement, while the mantle of leadership in Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate fell on Sharon Ikeazor.
Princess Gloria Akobundu becomes the National Coordinator/Chief Executive of New Partnership for Africa’s Development, just as Alhaji Ahmed Bobboi was named Executive Secretary of Petroleum Equalisation Fund.
While Umana Okon Umana becomes the Managing Director of Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, Sa’adiya Faruq has been appointed Federal Commissioner for National Commission for Refugees, Migrant and Internally Displaced Persons.
The government also named Usman Abubakar as chairman of Nigerian Railway Corporation; Dr. Bello Aliyu Gusau, Executive Secretary, Petroleum Technology Development Fund and Yewande Sadiku, Executive Secretary, Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission.

 



Governor Wike appoints Special Assistant on Traffic Lights


The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has appointed Daye Graham-Douglas as his Special Assistant on Street/Traffic Lights.

The appointment is contained in a statement by Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media who noted that the appointment takes immediate effect.

Army to deploy 1,900 personnel, 6 drones, 6 gunboats

A total of 1,900 military personnel would participate in the governorship election rescheduled for Wednesday, September 28.
In addition, two drones are to be deployed  in each of the three senatorial districts and six gunboats for the riverine areas.

Ambode launches distribution of shoes to 175,000 pupils

Wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode on Monday launched the distribution of shoes and socks to 175,000 public primary school pupils in Lagos State by her foundation, Hope For Women In Nigeria Initiative (HOFOWEM).
She counseled parents and guardians against using their children and wards to sell goods in traffic and on the streets, urging them to desist from all forms of child abuse and child labour, saying that parents should send their children to school rather than use them to hawk to avoid the dangers involved.


NUT threatens strike over unpaid entitlements

The Nigeria Union of Teachers Kaduna State branch said on Monday that it would embark on strike over non payment of entitlements to primary school teachers.
Audu Amba, state Chairman of the union, made this known in an interview with newsmen on the sideline of the emergency meeting of the NUT National Executive Council held in Kaduna.
Amba said the union had exhausted all areas of dialogue with the state government, without getting any positive response.
He said that more than 9, 000 teachers have been pencilled down for dismissal by the government.
He said that the state government had failed to settle the Leave Transport Grant of primary school teachers since 2015 even though it had been deducted from their salaries.
