 I’m ready to return N400m – Metuh

Former National Publicity Secretary, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh
A former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh, has said he’s in support of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war.
He said he’s already searching for money to refund to the national treasury, the N400m he was paid by the regime of former President Goodluck Jonathan for image laundering.
Metuh is currently undergoing trial for allegedly collecting the money from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sabo Dasuki(retd.).
His prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, has reached advanced stage.
The N400m was said to be part of money meant for the purchase of arms to wage the war against insecurity in the North-East.
Metuh, in a statement issued by his lawyer, Mr. Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) in Abuja on Thursday, said he was ready to refund the entire money.

Traders, revenue agents clash in Anambra
Five persons sustained injury and property worth millions of naira destroyed during the fracas between traders and revenue agents at Electrical Dealers International Market on Thursday in Obosi near Onitsha, Anambra.
Trouble started in the morning when the traders numbering more than three hundred protested to the office of the market’s Chairman, Mr. Benjamin Orji.
They accused the chairman of conniving with the revenue agents to extort money from them.
“Our grievance is that these agents collect money from us but write down a different amount in the receipts issued to us.
“I was asked to pay N36, 000 as tax, sanitation and development levies but was surprisingly issued with N19, 200 receipt and when I complained, they started harassing and threatening to beat me.
“This has been their way of extorting money from traders without the knowledge of the State Government”, a trader, Mr. Uchenna Uchenowa, said.
Another trader, Mr. Clement Nnabuife said they were asked to pay tax and levies from 2013 till date.
According to him, we have been paying sanitation levies but for over two years, no one has collected refuse from the market.
Mr. Chidi Ibagwa, former chairman of the market, said the payment system was against the instruction of the state government that all taxes and levies should be paid in the bank.
“The bone of contention is that some people are claiming ownership of the market and are using the state government’s authority to collect tax and levies from the people.

Nigeria to repackage produce to Europe

The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) on Thursday announced new measures to ensure that more of Nigeria’s agricultural produce meet the European Union(EU)’s standards.
Mr Christopher Onukwuba, NAQS’s Head, Department of Collaboration, Planning and International Trade, made this known in Lagos.
Onukwuba said that the EU’s recent extension of its ban on Nigerian beans had called for the need for the NAQS and other product regulatory agencies to redouble their efforts.
“The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service is currently doing a lot to make more Nigerian agricultural produce acceptable to the European countries.
“With the EU’s extension of its ban on Nigerian beans, Nigerian products regulatory agencies are prepared to ensure that agricultural produce from Nigeria meets the required EU standards.
“We are developing more laboratories for testing every agricultural produce before leaving Nigeria for the EU and other countries,” he said.
Onukwuba, who blamed the recent EU ban of Nigerian beans on over-use of pesticides by farmers, also said that his organisation would intensify its sensitization visits to farmlands.
He disclosed the organisation’s planned collaboration with the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) in ensuring that farmers conform with internationally-accepted pesticide-use standards.

Naked madman screams for Donald Trump in public

A hunky, naked model ranted about Donald Trump during a no-holds-barred, 90-minute Times Square jaunt that ended Thursday with his leap from the top of the TKTS booth.
Wide-eyed tourists and rush-hour commuters stared in disbelief as fashionably undressed Krit McClean headed to Bellevue Hospital after surviving his 25-foot plunge to the sidewalk.
“I see a lot of crazy guys in Times Square, but nothing like this,” said ticket agent Alpha Blade after the naked man was strapped to a stretcher — the final act in the surreal bit of street theater.
“He started taking his clothes off at 45th Street,” recounted Blade. “Any time a woman passed by, he’d throw his clothes at them.”
In between getting naked in the crowded Crossroads of the World, the 21-year-old McClean screamed repeatedly about the presumptive Republican presidential candidate.
“Donald Trump!” he howled. “Where are you?”
Eyewitnesses said the belligerent young man was spitting and swinging at police while his hysterical girlfriend stood bawling nearby.
“The police were trying to save him but he kept spitting on them, kept hitting them, giving them the finger,” said Blade. “The guy’s got muscles.”
