It wouldn’t be a bad idea for Churches to start using Point of Sales (POS) terminals to collect offerings during
services….it’ld help curb these increasing cases of
church theft.
Two suspected armed robbers who stole N954,000 church offering, from
St James’ Cathedral Bishops’ Court, Igarra, Akoko-Edo local government
area of Edo state, were shot and killed by operatives of the Edo State
Police Command on Tuesday.
They were shot dead by the police while trying to escape interrogation.
The third suspect who was the informant that led to the robbery is
currently being detained in police custody for further interrogation.
PM NEWS reports that the third suspect, who is very close to the church and who happens to be an adopted son of the Bishop
of the church, Rt. Rev. Jolly Oyekpen, gave out the information of the
church offerings to his friends.
The other two suspects met their death after falling
for the bait of a new 2 million naira deal formulated by the police and the
principal suspect. While trying to escape when they discovered they had been
trapped, the police shot them dead.
The alleged informant who is still alive, has spent N20, 000
out of his N300, 000 share and is presently cooling off in the police custody despite his
marriage plans that has already been fixed for this year.
The police has transferred the case to the State
Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Benin City for further investigation.
